I have an undying hatred for people who do not know me and call my phone for reasons that I do not care about. Telemarketers, people who want to give you information that you do not want, people who want to administer surveys over the phone, and people who call the wrong number and then try to interrogate you about how long you've had your phone number.
I even have a number of ways to deal with these people:
1. Hang up.
2. Tell them the person they called for died.
3. Mess with their heads (act really dumb, come up with a crazy story, tell them I am in a different country and am being held against my will, etc.).
4. Tell them that I'm busy but if they'll give me their name and number-I'll call them back.
5. Occasionally I'll impatiently deal with them/answer their questions. (But not often).
However, I have recently found out that as part of a class I will be required to join the ranks of those I hate. That's right. I'll have to call and conduct telephone surveys. You cannot imagine the depth to which this information annoys and repulses me.
Not only that- but the data is being collected to help graduate students. Us undergraduates are being USED. I am annoyed.
Bah. Humbug.

girl let me tell you it's the worst when someone calls you and they think you're someone you're not and they wont take no for an answer. I had this lady call me one time and I think she thought her husband/boyfriend was cheating on her with me because she wanted to know why I had called (which I hadn't) and how I knew him and all kinds of stuff. Lady you've got the WRONG number!
But yeah that really SUCKS! that you have to join the ranks of the vile scum that we so love to hang up on and harrass, that should be interesting. you'll have to post a blog to let us know how that goes.
